Earl Joseph DesRoches Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Earl “Pépé” DesRoches of Miscouche after a brief illness, on Monday, December 8th, 2025, at the age of 89, peacefully surrounded by his family.
He is survived by his beloved wife Thelma (née Arsenault) of 68 years; his loving children Nancy of Ottawa, Stephen of Richmond, B.C., Darryl (Eden Berkovits) of Ottawa and Lisa (Jim Rodgers) of Owen Sound, Ontario. He was a proud grandfather to Karina (Brady Welsh), Alexandra, Quinton, Andrew, Elliot and Leah. Most recently, he became Great-grandfather to beautiful baby Norah, daughter of Karina and Brady.
Born to the late Theodore and Loretta (Gallant), he is also survived by his sister Lorina (John Beaudoin), sister-in-law Una DesRoches and brother-in-law Dennis Teskey. He was predeceased by his brothers Cyril, Reggie and sisters Evelyn and Yvonne.
Earl grew up in Miscouche, PEI and later moved to Toronto as a young adult to begin his successful career at Goodyear, Canada. After starting a family and living there for 17 years, Earl accepted a transfer to Valleyfield, Quebec in 1973. He was very happy to retire back home on the island in 1989 to be close to family. In retirement, he became active in the church, supporting AA, and playing cribbage anywhere and anytime he could. Earl enjoyed gardening and he had a special love for music, especially old-time country and Acadian fiddle tunes. You could always find him in his glassed-in porch, listening and tapping his feet to lively music. He also quietly gave back to his community by donating blood and by collecting cans along the roads of Miscouche, donating the proceeds to help others.
He will be fondly remembered for his contagious laugh, comical expressions, and his famous little jig. Earl will remain in the hearts of his large extended family and friends in the community forever.
We take comfort in knowing that Earl is now at peace in God’s loving care.
Funeral mass, Saturday, December 13, 2025 at 10 a.m. at the St. John the Baptist Church in Miscouche. Memorial donations can be made to Prince County Hospital Palliative Care Unit.
