Bessie Alta Wood (Delaney), 88, of Parkdale passed away peacefully at Wedgewood Manor on October 1,2025. She was the much adored daughter of Claude and Mildred (MacKenzie) Delaney and grew up in her beloved Albany.  Loving mother to David (Cathy), the late Katherine and Robert (Lynn).

Bessie was most proud to be a Grandmother to Matthew (Sarah), Jeremy (Emily), Samantha ( Dakota), Clarke and Great Grandmother to Drew and Bowen Dawson, Oliver Wood, and Sullivan Wood. She was predeceased by her husband Allison Wood.

Bessie attended Acadia University and graduated from the PEI School of Nursing as an RN. She worked at the PEI Hospital in Charlottetown and then owned and operated the Happy Corner Kindergarten at Park Royal United Church where she gave every child who walked through the door a positive learning experience.  

Bessie was an enthusiastic volunteer for Parkdale Sherwood Lions and Lionesses, Park Royal United Church and the Progressive Conservative Party. She was well known for her cooking and baking skills, she always had a piece of pie or a cookie ready for anyone who visited but especially her grandchildren and their friends. She loved lobster, sweets and a good game of cards and was always up for a social activity.

Thank you to all those who cared for Bessie, in particular Wedgewood Manor staff who were so kind and caring.

A private family gathering will be held at a later date.  

A donation to Hospice PEI or Parkdale - Sherwood Lions Club would be greatly appreciated in Bessie’s memory.
