Melina Hashie June 24, 1958 – September 26, 2025 It is with heavy hearts that the family of Melina Hashie announces her peaceful passing on September 26, 2025, after a short but courageous battle with cancer.
Born on June 24, 1958, Melina was the beloved daughter of Clarence and Bregitte Hashie (Gallant). She was predeceased by her brother Henry Hashie, sister-in-law Norma Hashie, niece Jocelyne Gallant, and her infant brothers, David and Douglas.
Melina, fondly known as "Nena" to those closest to her, is lovingly remembered by her siblings: Albert Hashie (Zelma), Edward Hashie, Adeline Gallant (David), Simon Hashie (Nancy), Alma Sigsworth (Keith), Linda Hashie Gallant (Don), and Maynard Hashie (Vicky). She will also be dearly missed by her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and a wide circle of friends whose lives she touched with warmth and kindness.
A dedicated and hardworking woman, Melina began her career at CN Marine in 1977, where she worked for 20 years. Following the final crossings through the Northumberland Strait, she continued her career at the Tax Center until her well-earned retirement in 2022.
Melina’s quiet strength, independence, and generous heart will always be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She was the keeper of family knowledge — never forgetting a birthday or anniversary. Melina had a great love for the little joys in life: she was a devoted fan of Diet Coke, classic rock music, and Coronation Street. She found comfort and creativity in cross-stitching and took great pride in her cherished collection of Boyds Bears.
Melina’s deep love for her family was evident in every aspect of her life. She rarely missed a sporting event, music concert, or fundraiser involving her nieces, nephews, and their children. She was always up for a road trip and brought her thoughtfulness and sense of adventure wherever she went.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to staff at the Prince County Hospital for the kindness and compassionate care shown to Melina during her time there.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, October 2nd from 11 am to 1 pm., followed by a service at the Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will take place at the Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Richmond following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations in Melina's memory can be made to the charity of your choice.
