It is with great sadness that we share news of Paul Andre Rioux’s passing, age 72, of Summerside, PE, at the Prince County Hospital on Friday, June 27, 2025, after a brief and courageous battle with cancer. 

Beloved husband of Eileen Rioux, with whom he shared 24 years of marriage filled with laughter, devotion, and countless little jokes to keep life interesting. Loving and supportive stepfather to Krista (Gary Bryson), and adoring Papa to his grandsons Charlie and Christopher, who could always count on him for lots of fun and sneaky treats. Andre is also survived by his siblings, Suzanne, Gisele, Guy and Donald, nephew Sébastion, and was predeceased by his parents, John and Rachel, and his son, Jean Phillipe.

Those who knew Andre would agree that he was truly one of a kind, never missing an opportunity to crack a joke or offer a good-natured jab, especially toward the more reserved people in the room. We all appreciated how his quick wit and playful spirit kept our family gatherings lively and reminded us never to take life too seriously. 

Born in Bathurst, NB, Andre spent many years travelling and working as a bricklayer before settling in Harrington, PE and then Summerside. His craftsmanship can be found all over the Maritime provinces, from condominiums on the Halifax waterfront to high schools in Nova Scotia, newer buildings at the University of Prince Edward Island, and even a few friends’ and neighbours’ chimneys. Regardless of a project’s size, Andre brought artistry and professionalism to everything he did. 

In retirement, Andre was able to focus on what he cherished most: spending time with his family and friends. His love for Eileen showed in countless ways, both big and small, and his grandsons truly had him wrapped around their fingers. He will be deeply missed by many who loved him and remembered fondly for his humour, generous heart and the way he made every moment memorable. As hard as it is to say goodbye, Andre’s spirit will endure in the laughter of his sweet grandsons and the many stories that will be shared for years to come among family and friends.

Andre is resting at the East Prince Funeral Home, 245 Pope Road, Summerside, until Wednesday, July 2, where there will be visiting hours between 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm, immediately followed by a service at 3:00 pm in the same location.
