Cynthia Ann Darbyson Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Cynthia Ann Darbyson of Kensington announces her passing on June 26, 2025 at the Prince County Hospital, aged 61 years. Cindy was born in Charlottetown, PEI on May 16, 1964 to Blois (deceased) and Ruth MacFarlane.  Cherished Mom to Morgan (Grace Miller), Hannah (Kendrick Martin), and Rachael (Addy Hawbolt) and Grandma to Barron.

Fondly remembered by Darren Darbyson and friends Paul Gingrich and Ted Radbourne. Cindy is survived by her Mother Ruth Lambe, siblings Bonnie Ralph (Charlie),  Rosie MacFarlane,  Matt MacFarlane (Johanna),  Jim Carlsen (Kathleen) as well as nephews and nieces Ruthie, Mackenzie, Kylie, Eric, Evelynn and Harrison.

Predeceased by her father Blois MacFarlane and brother-in-law Daryl Guignon.

Cindy spent her childhood in DeSable and was one of the last students to attend the community’s one room schoolhouse.   After graduating high school, Cindy joined the Canadian Armed Forces and served 21 years, stationed in Edmonton, AB, Trenton ,ON and Greenwood ,NS.   Following retirement, Cindy came back to PEI and raised her family in Crapaud.

Cindy was a dedicated mom, encouraging and supporting her children in all activities.  She enjoyed volunteering at Englewood School and was instrumental in establishing a hot lunch program for the students.  Cindy also helped run the Vacation Bible School at the Island Wesleyan Church for many summers. When the kids had grown, Cindy joined the Corps of Commissionaires and later Industrial Security at Cavendish Farms. Cindy loved working at the plant and missed the camaraderie when she was no longer able to work.   She also enjoyed renovating her little house in Kensington, sharing a bottle of wine with neighbours, and walking and biking the trails.   In January 2025,  Cindy was thrilled to become a Grand-mor with the arrival of baby Barron.

Resting at East Prince Funeral Home, 245 Pope Road, Summerside.  As per Cindy’s request, there will be no service.

The family expresses appreciation to the nurses and staff of the Prince County Hospital for the excellent care she received in her final days. We would also like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to family and friends for their support.

Memorial donations may be made online to the PEI Humane Society.
