Alfred Francis Conway Obituary

In Loving Memory of Alfred Francis Conway

June 18, 1958 – June 20, 2025

A gentle spirit, a quiet soul, and a life lived with deep feeling and simple joy.

Alfred Francis Conway passed away peacefully on June 20, 2025, just two days after his 67th birthday.  He leaves behind a legacy not defined by accolades, but by the quiet power of presence, ritual, and love.

Born on June 18, 1958, Francis lived with an intellectual disability. Though life presented challenges, he moved through the world with deep kindness, quiet determination, and an extraordinary appreciation for the routines and relationships that shaped his days.

When his early caregiver, Mary Anne Arsenault (Meme) mother of Alphonsine, could no longer care for him, Francis was welcomed into the home of Joseph and Alphonsine MacIntyre. There, he found stability, love, and a family that became the heart of his life. Joseph (Joe) always considered Francis a special son. He grew up alongside his foster siblings, Brian, Darryl, and Sharon Livingston (née MacIntyre).

Francis was predeceased by Alphonsine MacIntyre and his foster sister Sharon Livingston. He is survived by his foster father Joe MacIntyre; his foster brothers Brian MacIntyre (of Halifax, Nova Scotia, with wife Christine MacIntyre, née Conrad) and their children Zoey and Chase; and Darryl MacIntyre (of Conway, Prince Edward Island, with wife Paula MacIntyre, née Rayner) and their daughter Marti Wilkins née MacIntyre (Jacob); his brother-in-law Jamie Livingston (of Halifax, Nova Scotia) and his son Elijah; as well as a wide circle of extended family and friends who knew and cherished him.

Francis was a very devoted worker. He was a familiar and valued presence at Sobeys for 46 years — a place where his commitment, punctuality, and pride in his duties were unmistakable.

Though he never drove, other than a single go-kart ride at Burlington Go Karts that his immediate family holds fond memories of, Francis made his way — hitchhiking faithfully to work and to pick up his daily newspapers, which he read with focus and pride. When he couldn’t hitch a ride, Joe or Al simply got in the car to take him — an enduring act of love.

Francis was a passionate basketball fan, with a deep and loyal love for his Toronto Raptors, cheering them on through every season. He also enjoyed local university, junior and high school basketball, sharing in the excitement and community spirit of each game.

In his earlier years, Francis curled, enjoying the strategy, camaraderie, and local tradition of the sport.

He was a lover of music and someone who found joy in seasonal rituals — especially his Christmas village, a yearly highlight carefully arranged and glowing with memory.

He collected miniature Toyota model cars, each one a small treasure in a thoughtfully kept collection.

Francis also had a special bond with the family’s pets over the years — animals who were part of the household and dearly loved by all. His gentle, caring nature shone through in his relationships with dogs Trixie, Tippy, Chico, Cuddles, Buddy, Jeuno, and Fluffy the cat. They brought joy and comfort to the entire family, and Francis loved them deeply.

He had modest favorites — especially PEI potatoes, which he enjoyed in all forms — and a gift for finding joy in the familiar and the meaningful.

Francis was also an active participant in his church community, occasionally carrying the cross during mass — a quiet gesture of faith and dignity that reflected his devotion.

Francis lived a life shaped by both challenge and grace. He didn’t seek the spotlight, but he brought light to those around him — with his steadiness, his humor, and the quiet, lasting care he showed through every part of his daily life.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered — in every shared story, every glowing Christmas village, and every joyful Raptors win.

Francis's family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at PCH for the wonderful care Francis received while a patient. A special thank you to Mary Ellen Cameron for her compassion and kindness shown to Francis and his family.

Resting at East Prince Funeral Home, 245 Pope Road, Summerside. By personal request there will be no visitation. Funeral service to be held on Friday, June 27th, 2025 at 2:30pm, at East Prince Funeral Home Chapel. Interment to take place in St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Miscouche, PEI
