Obituary of Gladys Belle Bernard

GLADYS BERNARD (Boulter) February 19,1925 - March 27, 2025

Three weeks after her 100th birthday, the death occurred peacefully surrounded by her family at Andrews Lodge,  Summerside.  Gladys is survived by only one of her six siblings, Miriam Hosford of St. John NB, and was predeceased by her parents Harry and Estella Boulter of O’Leary PEI, husband Gerard, a daughter Patricia Wick and grandson Alan Wick and son in law Geoff MacLaurin and infant Matthew MacLaurin.

She is survived by children Gail, Linda, Donna (Peters) Paul, Susan (Weatherbee) Greg, Heather (MacLaurin) and Robert.  As well as seventeen grandchildren, and more than a dozen great grandchildren.

With a husband who worked long hours and was an avid athlete, Gladys shouldered a large responsibility for caring for nine children, and still managed to sew, knit, crochet, and even run a taxi business when Gerard was away.  A formidable woman who was fearless and ready to tackle any necessity.

Later in life they travelled and there was time for swimming classes, line dancing, golfing, walking and spending time enjoying bowling and other activities with her adult children and their friends and enjoyed chatting with over a cup of tea.

She was not without some health issues and always rallied and we were amazed at her strength. She was very proud and protective of those she loved. A beautiful lady, who was always so happy to see her children and grandchildren, and thankfully there were enough of us to go around.

We would like to thank the wonderful caring staff of Andrews who took such excellent care of her.

Resting at East Prince Funeral Home, 245 Pope Road, Summerside, PEI, with visitation on Thursday, April 3rd, 2025, from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm followed by a funeral service in the Funeral Home Chapel at 3:00 pm. Interment to take place at a later date in St. Paul's Cemetery, Summerside. .

Donations in Glady's memory to the Parkinson Society would be greatly appreciated.
