Obituary of Roma Mary Genereux

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear mother, Roma Mary Genereux (nee Gallant) of Summerside, PEI, on March 25, 2025, at the age of 91. The death occurred peacefully at the Wedgewood Manor, surrounded by her loving family. Roma was born on August 14, 1933, in St. Eleanors, PEI, to the late Julia (nee Arsenault) and John Gallant. Deeply mourned yet lovingly remembered, Roma is survived by her daughters Lyne Genereux and Christine DesRoches, and her grandchildren Joshua Genereux and Jessica (Jordan) Yeo. She will be affectionately remembered by cherished family, Janet (Dennis) McEntyre of North Carolina, Tara Lynn (Stephen) Shea, Shawn (Jennifer) Courtney of Nova Scotia, her sister Irene of Massachusetts, and several other family members including chosen grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends and loved ones.

Predeceased by her loving and devoted husband of 32 years, Raymond Genereux; her committed life partner of 26 years, Patrick Courtney; sisters Janie and Bridget, brothers Alyre and Wesley, and other special lifelong friends.

Roma spent her life devoted to her family, nurturing and guiding her children with boundless love and wisdom. She created a home filled with warmth, laughter, and the irresistible scents of her baking and cooking. Whether it was a homemade meal shared around the table or a quiet moment of encouragement, she gave of herself endlessly, ensuring those she loved felt cared for and cherished. Beyond her devotion to family and friends she found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved music, singing along, and enjoyed live entertainment. She was always up for a game of cards, where her quick wit and competitive streak made every round more fun. Her presence was a gift and her memory will forever be a source of comfort. Though she may have left this world, her love and the lessons she shared will live on in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her. Roma was a beautiful woman who always carried herself with grace.

Our family would like to express our deepest gratitude to the incredible staff of Wedgewood Manor and Prince Country Hospital, for the care, kindness and compassion shown to our mother. Throughout her time with them, she was treated with dignity, respect, and warmth – something that brought us great comfort.

Resting at the East Prince Funeral Home, 245 Pope Rd, Summerside until Friday, March 28, 2025, where a funeral service will be held in the chapel at 2:00pm. Visitation hours will take place from 1:00pm until the time of service. Graveside Celebration of Life to take place in St Paul’s cemetery at a later date.
