Obituary of Margaret Richardson

In loving memory of
Margaret Richardson
1931-2025

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Margaret Richardson that occurred at her home on Monday, March 3, 2025, peacefully in her sleep with her family by her side. Born in Hull, England on September 9, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Matilda Micklethwaite. She was predeceased by her siblings Albert, Hilda, Jack, Joan and Mary.

After World War II Margaret joined the Women’s Land Army and worked at the Richardson family farm (“Kirkella Grange”) in Kirkella, England where she met the love of her life, Geoffrey. They married on December 6, 1952 and continued their adventure together by moving to Canada in 1968 and worked side by side on their family farm (“Hill Brook Farm”) in MacLellan’s Brook, Nova Scotia until his death in 2006. She moved to Summerside, PEI and was proud and passionate about living independently until
she passed at age 93.

Her greatest pride and joy in life was her family. Margaret and Geoff raised six sons together: Michael (Debbie) of Grand River, PEI; Graham (Narissara) of Bangkok, Thailand; Trevor (Nellie) of Heatherton, N.S.; Keith (Debbie) of Wolfville, N.S.; Paul (Suzanne) of Kingston, PEI and Brian (Patricia) of Elnora, Alberta. Their lives were further blessed with 18 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

Margaret was loved by everyone lucky enough to know her. She was a very talented cook so when visiting the family farm, you were greeted by the aroma of delicious meals and baking of all sorts, to be washed down with English tea! Listening to her sing her songs as she went about her day will be missed by all. Margaret’s green thumb assured their home was always filled with plants, flowers and fresh vegetables from her garden. Her love for cats gave a happy home to many strays over the years and Mickie her last feline friend will miss her dearly. Besides her big heart and devotion to her family she was known for her love of reading, children, animals, Johnny Mathis, the Royal family and everything English! She loved spending time with her family and friends often over a cup of tea. She especially enjoyed her regular visits from Elaine, Fenton and many other friends and neighbours.

The family would like to send a special thank you to Barb Paynter who was not only a dedicated caregiver to Margaret in her final years but also a true friend who loved her dearly. You made her dream of living in her home until she passed come true and for that we will be eternally grateful. Also, a special note of appreciation to Peggy Macintyre for all the help you provided to Margaret. In addition, her family would like to thank the staff of Home Care and the Prince County Hospital for their loving care provided to Margaret in recent years.

At the request of Margaret there will be no visitation or funeral service. Interment to take place (at a later date) in MacLellan’s Brook, Nova Scotia in the coming months. In lieu of flowers, donations in Margaret’s memory can be made directly to the charity of your choice. You can also honour Margaret’s memory by doing an act of kindness for all the seniors in your life.
