Obituary of DesRoches, Joan Gertrude
The death occurred peacefully, surrounded by her family, at The Prince County Hospital, Summerside, P.E.I. on Sunday, December 20th, 2020, of Joan Gertrude (nee Barry) DesRoches of Miscouche and formerly of Wellington, P.E.I., aged 78 years. Joan was born to her late parents Russell and Mary (nee Gillis) Barry. Beloved wife of Danny Arsenault and loving mother of Tanya (Bill), Miscouche, Tracy, Summerside and Corey (Wendy), Miscouche. Also lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Spencer (Shannon), Scott, Sam, Jessica (Denis), Russell (Krista), Meghan (Cory), Rebecca (Dorel), Ashley (Ryan), Jordan and her 2 great-grandchildren Michael & Joanie. Survived by her brother Frank (Lori) of Seven Mile Bay, brother-in-law Louis and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Joan was predeceased by her sister Myrtle. Resting at the East Prince Funeral Home, 245 Pope Rd., Summerside. Due to Covid-19 restrictions a private funeral service will be held with internment to follow in the Immaculate Conception Church Cemetery, Wellington. A Celebration of Joan's Life for friends and family will be held at a later date. Memorial donations in Joan's memory can be made directly to the PCH Foundation.

In the late 1980's, a group of citizens from the East Prince area met to discuss the possibility of establishing a co-operative funeral home. Two such homes were operating successfully in Prince County, namely the West Prince Funeral Home in Palmer Road and the Evangeline Funeral Home in Urbainville. As a result, on January 24th, 1989, the East Prince Funeral Co-operative Ltd. was formed.
