Obituary of MacGillivray, FCA, Waldon " Wally " J.
The death occurred peacefully at the Summerset Manor , Summerside, P.E.I. on Thursday , October 1st , 2009 of Waldon 'Wally' J. MacGillivray, FCA of Summerside, & formerly of Cape Breton, N.S. , aged 75 years. Wally was born on March 29th, 1934 in Victoria Mines, N.S. to his late parents Waldon & Laura ( nee Ling ) MacGillivray.
Beloved husband of Joan ( nee Gourley ) MacGillivray and loving father of Murray ( Dianne ) of Oakville , On. , Laura MacGillivray of Halifax, N.S., Jennifer ( Richard ) Schmalz of Halifax, N.S. and Maureen ( Paul ) of Summerside. Also lovingly remembered by his six grandchildren David, Daniel, Nadene, Melanie, Rebecca & Katherine , along with many nieces and nephews. Survived by his brothers & sisters : Geraldine MacSween of Antigonish, N.S. , Mary MacNeil, Bernadette Dunphy, James and Muriel Harter all of Cape Breton, N.S. and Blaze of Ontario.
Besides his parents, Wally was predeceased by his sisters Lenore Parker, Laura Meritt and Genevieve Boudreau.
Resting at East Prince Funeral Home, 245 Pope Road, Summerside until Monday, October 5th , then to St. Paul's Church, Summerside for funeral mass at 10:30 a.m.. Interment to take place later in Cape Breton , N.S. . Memorial donations in Wally's memory to the Alzheimer Society of P.E.I. or a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated. Visiting hours on Sunday evening only , 6 - 9 p.m..

In the late 1980's, a group of citizens from the East Prince area met to discuss the possibility of establishing a co-operative funeral home. Two such homes were operating successfully in Prince County, namely the West Prince Funeral Home in Palmer Road and the Evangeline Funeral Home in Urbainville. As a result, on January 24th, 1989, the East Prince Funeral Co-operative Ltd. was formed.
