Obituary of MacKinnon, Nora Mary
The death occurred peacefully and surrounded by her family at the Prince County Hospital, Summerside, P.E.I. on Sunday, June 5th, 2011 of Mary Nora MacKinnon ( nee Barriault ) of Grand River, P.E.I. aged 86 years. Nora was born on September 16th, 1924 in Egmont Bay, P.E.I. to her late parents Archibald & Lena ( nee Arsenault ) Barriault.
Beloved wife of the late Norbert MacKinnon and loving mother of Rita ( Joe ) McNeill of Wellington Centre, Ed of Vancover, BC., Richard ( Marion ) of Kensington, Brian ( Anne ) of Fredericton, N.B., Karen MacArthur of Northam, Nelson ( Nancy ) of Grand River, Helena MacKinnon of Lower Sackville, N.S & Shane( Lesley ) of Grand River. Also lovingly remembered by 21 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Survived by her sisters Mary ( Alyre ) Gallant and Louise Gallant all of Summerside, brothers-in-law George MacKinnon & Rene Leroux and sister-in-law Vera Barrett.
Besides her husband and parents, Nora was predeceased by her brother Ernest, sisters Rita & Edna and several brothers & sisters -in-law.
Resting at the East Prince Funeral Home, 245 Pope Road, Summerside until Tuesday, June 7th , then to St. Patrick's Church, Grand River for funeral mass at 10:30 a.m.. Interment to take place in the church cemetery. Memorial donations in Nora's memory to the Grand River Church Building Fund or a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated. Visiting hours on Monday 2 - 4 & 7 - 9 p.m. .

In the late 1980's, a group of citizens from the East Prince area met to discuss the possibility of establishing a co-operative funeral home. Two such homes were operating successfully in Prince County, namely the West Prince Funeral Home in Palmer Road and the Evangeline Funeral Home in Urbainville. As a result, on January 24th, 1989, the East Prince Funeral Co-operative Ltd. was formed.
