Obituary of Blacquiere, Gerald " Jerry " Joseph
The death occurred peacefully and surrounded by his loving family at the Prince County Hospital, Summerside, P.E.I. on Wednesday, January 25th , 2012 of Gerald 'Jerry' Joseph Blacquiere of North Carleton, P.E.I. , aged 82 years. Jerry was born on March 30th , 1929 in St. Nicholas, P.E.I. to his late parents Donat and Mable ( nee Poirier ) Blacquiere .
Beloved husband of Barbara 'Babs' ( nee MacDonald ) Blacquiere and loving father of Pat ( Daniel ) Beauchesne of Schurmans Point, Barbara ( John ) Wood of Borden-Carleton, Karen ( Les ) Smith of Summerside, Derrick ( Darlene ) of Central Bedeque and Carol ( Darren ) Murphy of Charlottetown. Also lovingly remembered by his grandchildren : Maria-Dawn, Amber, Jean-Marc, Vanessa, Melissa, Olivia, MacKenzie, Andrew, Benjamin, Jordan, Sarah, Grace and Jessica ; his great-grandchildren Bailey, Ayden, Drake, Xander, Braeden and Landon ; and numerous nieces and nephews. Survived by his brothers and sisters : Marie Stewart of Ottawa, ON., Louis ( Lucy ) of Moncton, N.B., Marina ( John ) Arsenault of Miscouche, Geralda ( John ) Thibideau of Miscouche and Leatha ( Clarence ) Dupuis of Moncton, N.B. .
Besides his parents, Jerry was predeceased by sisters Mary Louise ( Sylvere ) Wedge, Shirley ( Albin ) Arsenault, Tina ( Lloyd ) Cameron and brothers Harold ( Anna ) and Cyrus ( Celina ) .
Resting at the East Prince Funeral Home, 245 Pope Rd., Summerside until Saturday, January 28th , 2012 then to St. Peter's Church , Seven Mile Bay for a funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. . Interment to take place in the church cemetery. Visiting hours on Friday , 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. . Memorial donations in Jerry's memory to the Arthritis Society of P.E.I. or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated .

In the late 1980's, a group of citizens from the East Prince area met to discuss the possibility of establishing a co-operative funeral home. Two such homes were operating successfully in Prince County, namely the West Prince Funeral Home in Palmer Road and the Evangeline Funeral Home in Urbainville. As a result, on January 24th, 1989, the East Prince Funeral Co-operative Ltd. was formed.
