Obituary of Sutherland, Joan Murdella
The death occurred peacefully and surrounded by her loving family at the Prince County Hospital, Summerside , P.E.I. on Thursday, May 17th , 2012 of Joan Murdella Sutherland ( nee MacGregor ) of Summerside and formerly of Toronto, ON. , aged 72 years. Joan was born on December 1st , 1939 in Sydney Mines, N.S. to her late parents John and Martha ( nee MacFarlene ) MacGregor.
Beloved mother of Deborah Sutherland ( Allan MacDougall ) of Summerside. Also lovingly remembered by her granddaughter Natasha Keeling of Summerside, her brother-in-law Ross Crowdis of Cape Breton, N.S. , her 3 nieces , 2 nephews and numerous cousins. Survived by her sisters Betty ( Milo ) Varljen of Toronto, ON. and Catherine ( Fred ) Tesarsch of Mississauga, ON. .
Besides her parents, Joan was predeceased by her sister Maureen Crowdis.
By personal request, there will be no funeral service or visiting hours held. Following cremation, interment will take place in Cape Breton, N.S. at a later date. Memorial donations in Joan's memory to the Canadian Diabetes Association would be greatly appreciated.

In the late 1980's, a group of citizens from the East Prince area met to discuss the possibility of establishing a co-operative funeral home. Two such homes were operating successfully in Prince County, namely the West Prince Funeral Home in Palmer Road and the Evangeline Funeral Home in Urbainville. As a result, on January 24th, 1989, the East Prince Funeral Co-operative Ltd. was formed.
