Obituary of Hickey, Elizabeth " Bette " Jane
The death occurred peacefully at the Prince County Hospital, Summerside , P.E.I. on Saturday, June 30th , 2012 of Elizabeth "Bette" Jane Hickey ( nee Coyle ) of Summerside, aged 86 years. Bette was born on February 15th , 1926 in Swampscott, Mass. , U.S.A. to her late parents Leo and Nora ( nee MacIntyre ) Coyle.
Beloved wife of the late J. Eldon Hickey and loving mother of Bryan ( Janis ) of Harrogate, England , Bruce ( Sandra ) of Summerside, Dr. Joseph ( Laurie ) of Charlottetown, Jayne ( Brent ) MacDougall of Summerside, Claire Hickey ( Steve Muise ) of Long Creek and Justin ( Suporn ) of Fredericton, N.B. . Loving Nana to her grandchildren Eleanor, Matthew, Kristen, Brandon, Ainsley, Tyler, Jannele and Aim. Also remembered by her sisters-in-law Clare Coyle of Virginia, U.S.A. and Marie Hickey of Charlottetown and numerous nieces and nephews. Survived by her brother Allison Coyle of New Hampshire, U.S.A. .
Besides her husband and parents, Bette was predeceased by her brother Charles Coyle and her sisters Leonore & Mary Coyle.
Resting at the East Prince Funeral Home, 245 Pope Road, Summerside until Thursday, July 5th then to St. Peter's Church, Seven Mile Bay for a funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. . Interment to take place at St. Paul's Cemetery, Summerside. Following the interment , a reception will be held at St. Paul's Parish Center, Summerside. In lieu of flowers , memorial donations in Bette's memory to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated . Visiting hours on Wednesday, 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. .

In the late 1980's, a group of citizens from the East Prince area met to discuss the possibility of establishing a co-operative funeral home. Two such homes were operating successfully in Prince County, namely the West Prince Funeral Home in Palmer Road and the Evangeline Funeral Home in Urbainville. As a result, on January 24th, 1989, the East Prince Funeral Co-operative Ltd. was formed.
