Obituary of Rafferty, Edward "Bud" Chester
The death occurred peacefully and surrounded by his loving family at the Wedgewood Manor, Summerside, P.E.I. on Monday, March 18th, 2013 of Edward " Bud " Rafferty of Summerside and formerly of Foxley River and Emerald, P.E.I., aged 88 years. Bud was born on October 1st, 1924 in Foxley River, P.E.I. to his late parents Raymond and Lena ( nee MacFadyen ) Rafferty.
Beloved father of Alan of Charlottetown, James ( Emma ) of Winslow, Barry ( Heather ) of Breadalbane, Charlene ( Glenn ) Hopper of Salisbury, NB., Maura Lee Rafferty of Charlottetown and their mother Dorothy Jones of Charlottetown. Also lovingly remembered by his 9 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Survived by the following brothers and sisters : Ervin of Summerside, Don of Foxley River, Joyce ( Wendell ) Bridges of Richmond, Clarence ( Anne ) of Toronto, ON., Ronald of N.F.L.D., Norbert ( Eileen ) of Summerside, and Mollie Rafferty ( Arnold MacDougall) of Foxley River. Also remembered by his sisters-in-law Susan Rafferty of Foxley River and Dora Keizer of Charlottetown.
Besides his parents, Bud was predeceased by his brothers George, Alvin, Gerald, Walter, his sister Elaine Rafferty and great grandchild Joshua.
Resting at the East Prince Funeral Home, 245 Pope Rd., Summerside until Thursday, March 21st, for a funeral service at the funeral home chapel at 10:30 a.m. Interment to take place at a later date in St.Bridgets Cemetery, Foxley River. Visiting hours on Wednesday evening only, 6:30 - 9 p.m. Memorial donations in Bud's memory to the Heart and Stroke foundation would be greatly appreciated. Members of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #5, Summerside will hold a Service of Remembrance at the funeral home on Wednesday evening at 6:15 p.m.

In the late 1980's, a group of citizens from the East Prince area met to discuss the possibility of establishing a co-operative funeral home. Two such homes were operating successfully in Prince County, namely the West Prince Funeral Home in Palmer Road and the Evangeline Funeral Home in Urbainville. As a result, on January 24th, 1989, the East Prince Funeral Co-operative Ltd. was formed.
